Dear Refiner's Fire...

So, what do you tell people who have proof positive there are many contradictions in the Bible, such as the following?

Did either one of the two thieves believe in Jesus?

Matt(27/44) and Mark(15/32) - Neither one belived in Jesus but in Luke(23/ 39-41)only one does not believe but one does.

How many people came to the tomb?

Matt(28/1) - Two: Mary M. and other Mary

Mark(16/1) - Three: Mary M. and Mary(Mother of James) and Salome

Luka(24) - Four: Mary M. and Mary (Mother of James) Joanna and other woman

John 20/1) - One: Only Mary M. came to the tomb.

Our Response....

Yes, people can argue anything they want, and they do. But my question is always: What does the BIBLE say?

Anyone who doesn't properly understand the Bible can come to the conclusion that there are errors or contradictions in the Bible. The key is understanding the Scriptures through the help of the Holy Spirit. Granted, there can be errors from Bible version to Bible version because people tend to mistranslate things, and in those cases it's good to check out various different versions, and compare them to each other. The best thing would be to learn Hebrew and Aramaic and see for yourself exactly what those originals say!

The Refiner's Fire gets people with questions like this all the time. Please see how we responded to some of those questions on our Challenging Atheism page.

My answer to your question above is: First of all, who CARES whether or not the thieves "believed" in Jesus, or exactly how many women went to the tomb? And why would anybody even want to argue about it? What does it have to do with YOUR OWN salvation and your relationship to God? What does it prove that one Gospel leaves out certain things, while another goes into more detail? All it proves is that John, Luke, Mark and Matthew were telling the story according to what each of them remembered. And as you know, if you get five people to witness a car accident, each account will be a little bit different....

The bottom line is, the Bible at least tells the MAIN story accurately, from Genesis to Revelation. All the rest is just drivel that doesn't add to anything, one way or the other.

The fact remains:

1. More than 300 Bible prophecies have come true and there are just a few more to go.

2. It's not a lie that Yeshua has so far fulfilled the first four of the seven feasts - and that cannot be contradicted! People might try, but the facts speak for themselves.

3. He did walk the Earth and He is our Savior and that the Books of Daniel and Revelation are literally unfolding before our very eyes. Please see End times questions and Signs of Christ's Return.

4. God said Israel would become a nation again, and that happened in 1948, in ONE DAY, exactly as Isaiah predicted!

5. Yeshua WAS Torah observant, as each of the Gospels show. He didn't attend "churches"; He attended synagogues and taught in them. He kept the seventh day Sabbath AND the Biblical Feasts - so what makes us think we have a right to ignore His example? He died on Nisan 14 and was resurrected exactly three days later on SATURDAY afternoon/evening - not on "Easter Sunday"....

I could go on, but you get the drift. The Bible has been accurate over and over and over again on major issues, so spending time quibbling about minutiae is a waste of time. For those who don't want to believe the Bible because they think there are so many errors, well, that's THEIR problem. They can take it up with God on Judgment Day.....
