A word about Christian Militias

As this is written (end of March 2010), the "Hutaree" are in the news. Their leadership has been arrested presumably for conspiring to kill law enforcement officials then blow up the funeral procession. The "Hutaree" are a supposedly Christian para-military organization, professing to be preparing for the end times battles and "keeping the testimony Jesus Christ alive." Really? Does preparing to do battle and kill government officials actually "keep the testimony of Jesus Christ alive"? Is that what preparation for the "end times" means?

In all honesty, this so-called "Christian" organization - the "Hutaree" - can be compared to radical Muslims who think they are following God's orders by taking the law into their own hands and killing innocent people. These "Christians" cite John 15:13 as the leading banner on their website (which may well soon be removed from the web since its leaders have all been arrested).

According to the Hutaree, John 15:13 says "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." In this single scripture, the Hutaree apparently somehow see the command, "Get ready to go to war". Let's examine this in context and see if this actually means, "Arm yourselves to do battle":

John 15: 10 If you keep my commands, you will stay in my love -- just as I have kept my Father's commands and stay in his love. 11 I have said this to you so that my joy may be in you, and your joy be complete. 12 "This is my command: that you keep on loving each other just as I have loved you. 13 No one has greater love than a person who lays down his life for his friends. 14 You are my friends, if you do what I command you. 15 I no longer call you slaves, because a slave doesn't know what his master is about; but I have called you friends, because everything I have heard from my Father I have made known to you. 16 You did not choose me, I chose you; and I have commissioned you to go and bear fruit, fruit that will last; so that whatever you ask from the Father in my name he may give you. 17 This is what I command you: keep loving each other! 18 "If the world hates you, understand that it hated me first. 19 If you belonged to the world, the world would have loved its own. But because you do not belong to the world -- on the contrary, I have picked you out of the world -- therefore the world hates you. 20 Remember what I told you, `A slave is not greater than his master.' If they persecuted me, they will persecute you too; if they kept my word, they will keep yours too. 21 But they will do all this to you on my account, because they don't know the One who sent me. 22 "If I had not come and spoken to them, they wouldn't be guilty of sin; but now, they have no excuse for their sin. 23 Whoever hates me hates my Father also. 24 If I had not done in their presence works which no one else ever did, they would not be guilty of sin; but now, they have seen them and have hated both me and my Father. 25 But this has happened in order to fulfill the words in their Torah which read, `They hated me for no reason at all.' 26 "When the Counselor comes, whom I will send you from the Father -- the Spirit of Truth, who keeps going out from the Father -- he will testify on my behalf. 27 And you testify too, because you have been with me from the outset.

Here, in John 15:13, where the Hutaree have interpreted "let's go to war!", Yeshua (Jesus) was actually saying, "By teaching others to follow me and be obedient to the Father, you have laid down your life for truth. You have attempted to show them the way, the truth the life!" Yeshua then goes on to inform the people that this will not be easy, that "the world" will hate them because the world "hates" the truth.

Yet, the Hutaree see only "arm yourselves to do battle" in Yochanan 15:13! Where the scripture says "it is so important to reveal to your friends (the unknowing) the truth of the Kingdom that you are willing to die for them," the Hutaree instead see, "get ready to die for your cause".

The Hutaree website has as its background a swath of camouflage, with a prominent photo on the "home" page showing the para-military "elite"....Note that this group of men in the photo are dressed to the teeth in their military gear, each holding rifles; even their dog is carrying gear! This illustration is supposedly of "happy" men; men who are prepared to kill for their misguided belief that Yeshua told them to "arm themselves" to die for their "friends"! Is it any wonder that many view believers in Messiah Yeshua as certified kooks and hypocrites?

The Hutaree evidently see themselves as a serious "military" organization. The even have a rank system where they present, without further explanation, the ranks of "RADOK", "BORAMANDER", "ZULIF", "ARKON", "GOLD RIFLEMAN", "SILVER RIFLEMAN", "BRONZE RIFLEMAN", "LUKORE", "MASTER GUNNER", "SENIOR GUNNER", and "GUNNER".

Though they present no explanation of these ranks, there are 11 ranks, and assuming "Radok" is the "highest", this corresponds to either the top officer or enlisted ranks of the US Army, plus a "senior" rank ("Radok") representing the "senior man". Who knows what these concocted ranks mean except the "Hutaree"? Clearly, this group glorifies rank as a measure of status in the organization, despite the teachings of Yeshua, who classified all as equal! (See John 13:16 which says: "Yes, indeed! I tell you, a slave is not greater than his master, nor is an emissary greater than the one who sent him." Note that this scripture is from two chapters earlier in John, yet the Hutaree claim Yeshua gave them their power in John 15:13!). It is not uncommon for the mind of man to think "rank" provides "power" - see the teachings of Hitler, or Satanism, Wicca, or even any sport!

So, exactly who are the Hutaree? According to their "About Us" page, they are "Christian warriors"....

"About Us [:] HUTAREE; Christian Warrior

As christians we all are a part of the Souls of the Body of Christ, the one true church of Christ. Not any specific man made building or any man controlled organization. This is the belief of the Hutaree soldier, as should the belief of all followers in Christ be.

We believe that one day, as prophecy says, there will be an Anti-Christ. All christians must know this and prepare, just as Christ commanded. Luke 22:35-37, And He said to them, "When I sent you without money bag, knapsack, and sandals, did you lack anything?" So they said, "Nothing." 36, Then he said to them, "But now, he who has a money bag, let him take it, and likewise a knapsack; and he who has no sword, let him sell his garment and buy one. 37, "For I say to you that this which is written must be accomplished in me: 'And He was numbered with transgressors,' For the things concerning Me have an end." This clearly states the reason for the training and preparation of the Hutaree.

Jesus wanted us to be ready to defend ourselves using the sword and stay alive using equipment. The only thing on earth to save the testimony and those who follow it, are the members of the testimony, til the return of Christ in the clouds. We, the Hutaree, are prepared to defend all those who belong to Christ and save those who aren't. We will still spread the word, and fight to keep it, up to the time of the great coming.

Being Hutaree is to stay the Testimony of Christ alive, and follow a motto, John15:13, "Greater love hath no man than this, that he lay down his life for his friends." We are hoping that through this website we can reach out to those who have not the word of God and those who are lost in there ideas of Christ. Many of the things Christ said would happen have happened and some things are still in the works of happening.

We all must know that we all carry a cross and a soldiers cross is just as heavy as any other. Just as Jesus did we must also carry our cross to our destination our life abounds us to. All people are givin a destination by God's will and have to continue there walk to there own golgotha. But many people, even christians don't agree with the things we do but all we have to say is, we will not argue over the Bible, read it for what it is. We believe only what the Bible says and not on only philosophy, as many christians of this day do. Christ is our king of kings and top general of all things, for we are not of this world but we live in it.

The Hutaree will one day see its enemy and meet him on the battlefield if so God wills it. We will reach out to those who are yet blind in the last days of the kingdoms of men and bring them to life in Christ. Daniel 11:32-35, "Those who do wickedly against the covenant he shall corrupt with flattery; but the people who know their God shall be strong, and carry out great exploits. 33, "And those of the people who understand shall instruct many; yet for many days they shall fall by sword and flame, by captivity and plundering. 34, "Now when they fall, they shall be aided with a little help; but many shall join them by intrigue. 35 "And some of those of understanding shall fall, to refine them, purify them, and make them white, until the time of the end; because it is still for the appointed time."

Once again thanks for visiting Hutaree.com and may Christ bless you widely."

Well, can we all just say "Hooah!" (For those of you who don't know, "hooah" is a declarative by the troops in the Army or the Marines in support of your leadership's macho-building pump-speech.) Don't you just feel the power?...Apparently, this group did not graduate from elementary school, as the grammar is extremely poor, the teaching weak, and the context of the scriptures is so unsupported that one can only wonder how such a group expects to recruit the "finest"....With "intellects" such as whoever built their website, it's no wonder they managed to twist the Scriptures and totally take the Bible out of context!

Let's consider their "creed":

According to the Hutaree, "As christians we all are a part of the Souls of the Body of Christ, the one true church of Christ."

The term "Souls of the Body of Christ" appears nowhere in any Bible translation except in the Hutaree's "About Us" statement. The "one, true Church of Christ" does not exist. In fact, Yeshua did not come to establish a church! He actually came to proclaim the Kingdom of Yahweh - see Luke 4:43.

"...as should the belief of all followers in Christ be." Be what? Be "Souls of the Body of Christ"? As noble as that might sound, Yeshua actually said:

John 14: 15 "If you love me, you will keep my commands; 16 and I will ask the Father, and he will give you another comforting Counselor like me, the Spirit of Truth, to be with you forever. 17 The world cannot receive him, because it neither sees nor knows him. You know him, because he is staying with you and will be united with you. 18 I will not leave you orphans -- I am coming to you. 19 In just a little while, the world will no longer see me; but you will see me. Because I live, you too will live. 20 When that day comes, you will know that I am united with my Father, and you with me, and I with you. 21 Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me, and the one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and reveal myself to him." 22 Y'hudah (not the one from K'riot) said to him, "What has happened, Lord, that you are about to reveal yourself to us and not to the world?" 23 Yeshua answered him, "If someone loves me, he will keep my word; and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. 24 Someone who doesn't love me doesn't keep my words -- and the word you are hearing is not my own but that of the Father who sent me. 25 "I have told you these things while I am still with you."

Please read and re-read this until you see that the "Souls of the Body of Christ" are not those who arm themselves against the Anti-Christ, but instead are those who keep the commandments! Yeshua himself said so!

The astute reader will note that the quoted scripture above (John 14: 15-25) immediately precedes the Hutaree-quoted scripture from John 15:13 whereupon they justify their war stance! We at The Refiners Fire defy you to substantiate the link between Yeshua advising us to "keep my commands" yet in one chapter later advising us to "take up arms"!

You see, this is the central problem with cults and nutcases! They take a single scripture entirely out of context, and build a "religion" around it! The Hutaree deserve to be arrested and disbanded in the same way as the "Militia of Montana" or the "Freemen" who hide behind the US Constitution making claims that "The Militia is We The People enforcing the God given rights that every human being should have."

Remember the "Freemen"? In 1996 they attempted to hold a standoff against the US by their "belief in the racist and anti-Semitic 'Christian Identity' doctrine that Jews are the offspring of Satan and non-white races are subhuman". (Apparently Yahweh wasn't smart enough to know what He was doing when He created man, and Eve's being the Mother of all living (Genesis 3:20) apparently meant only white people....)

Or how about the Idaho militia who claim "We are the Army of the Lord, visiting His wrath on all those who would aggress the people of Idaho"? The bottom line is, these people are no better than the Muslim "suicide bombers" who shout "allah akbar" while killing innocent civilians!

What, we ask, is so hard to understand in the Bible in that all Yahweh asks of us is obedience? And what in scripture asks any of us to "prepare" for the end times except to prepare ourselves by being holy? (See Leviticus 11:44.) Where in the Old or New Testaments are we told to "prepare" by arming ourselves? In fact, Yeshua Himself tells us "But when that day and hour will come, no one knows - not the angels in heaven, not the Son, only the Father (Matthew 24:36). And can we actually prepare by arming ourselves? If so, then why does Yeshua go on to say: "Then there will be two men in a field - one will be taken and the other left behind. There will be two women grinding flour at the mill - one will be taken and the other left behind. So stay alert, because you don't know on what day your Lord will come."? Does this mean we should arm ourselves? How so?

No, Yeshua did not mean to imply we should arm ourselves! Instead, He meant that we should be prepared spiritually! Carmen Welker, in her book "War in Heaven" asks: "What are YOU doing to prepare [for the coming end times]? There are so many 'conspiracy theories' today, especially on the Internet, along with suggestions for us to prepare by stocking up on canned goods and bottled water. But the thing is, canned goods and bottled water aren't going to save you if you are killed by an airborne disease or swallowed up by an earthquake, trapped in a burning building, or drowned in the rising waters of a hurricane. The most important thing you can do for yourself is to prepare yourself spiritually." Spiritual preparation requires obedience to Yahweh's commands!

What evidence is there that preparation depends on obedience to Yahweh's commands? Just who gets to enter the Kingdom of Yahweh? The Bible tells us!

John 14: 15 "If you love me, keep my commandments."

Revelation 12: 17 "The dragon was infuriated over the woman and went off to fight the rest of her children, those who obey God's commands and bear witness to Yeshua."

Revelation 20: 4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years."

You see, it matters not what you do in your earthly existence to prepare for the end times and the second coming of the Messiah! It matters only how obedient you were. For unless you have BOTH the witness of Yeshua (that He died for your sins) AND obeyed the commands of Yahweh (the Word of God), no militia membership will save you!
