A perfect example of false teaching

The Internet teems with websites about God, each one proclaiming to have THE answers. The one sure way to make sure that what they say is "on the mark" is to compare their philosophies and assertions with the Bible. If it isn't in the Bible, it isn't of God. Simple as that.

A perfect example of some of the false teachings can be found on a website called Scientific Proof God Exists, wherein the webmaster mixes evolution with Creation, insisting that we "evolved from pond scum". To help illustrate this lie, she repetitively uses a small icon which consists of the Christian "fish" symbol perverted to look as though it is "evolving", all the while carrying a cross!

Naturally, when I happened upon this website, I immediately sent the following e-mail in order to draw the webmaster's attention to this blatant lie:

Dear Liz,

While I appreciate your trying to prove God's existence, you are mixing evolution in with the Bible. You propose that we evolved from pond scum which is absolutely WRONG! If we evolved from "pond scum" then what about Adam and Eve? God tells us he made them and breathed life into them.

I'm not trying to sound mean, but what you're teaching is totally off the mark. Examples:

The biggest leap forward in evolution occurred when different life forms learned to cooperate with one another. We went from being single celled organisms to multicellular organisms and from that major change grew all the variety we see around us. Love and cooperation, not competition, is what drives much of evolution, and among other things, "Christ is Love." (First Epistle of John 4:8).

I propose as Teilhard De Chardin did, that if the evolutionary process really is so strong that Humans and Whales can evolve from pond scum in just five billion or so years, God is perfectly capable of evolving in ten billion or so years. The pond scum did not even know where it was going and it had no will. We at least have a vague idea of where we are going, and we have the desire.

God didn't "evolve" and neither did we. Furthermore, that little icon - an "evolution" thing carrying a cross (while extremely cute) is an abomination. You can't serve two masters and I would urge you to please re-read the Bible.

Teacher @ The Refiner's Fire

God is "perfectly capable of evolving"? Wow! So much for "God is the same yesterday, today, and forever" (Hebrews 13:8). Liz's ideas bring to mind the Scripture that tells us that in the end times, even the elect will be deceived (Matthew 24:24)....

In Malachi 3:6 and several other Scriptures, God affirms, "I the Lord do not change." This is why Christian doctrine teaches that God is immutable that is, unchangeable. The promise of this constancy and permanence in the nature and character of God has been deeply reassuring to many believers down through the ages. When everything else changes, we can remember the living God never fails or vacillates from anything that he is or that he has promised.

The point is that "unchangeableness" must not be thought of as if it were some type of frozen immobility. God is not some impervious being who cannot respond when circumstances or individuals change. Rather, He has revealed Himself to us not only as a living Being, but also a living Person in the form of Yeshua, and as such he can and does change when the occasion demands it. He does not change in his character, person or plan. But he can and does respond to our changes.

Anyway, rather than to ask some pertinent questions or check her Bible to verify my various comments and challenges, Liz - the webmaster of "Proof God Exists" - insisted that her opinions were Gospel, and went on the defensive in order to try prove me wrong. Below is her response:

Ephesians 4:15, 1 Corinthians 12:27, John 15:1-7

Noah's family was aboard the Ark, all one family. Language was changed at the Tower of Babel but facial expressions and skin color did not change suddenly, or else that remarkable event would have been recorded too. From this we can deduce facial features and skin color changed gradually over a great period of time so that no one but God realized it was happening. That is all evolution is, gradual change.

Noah did not take two of every kind of dog aboard the Ark. He didn't take two Saint Bernard's and two Chihuahuas, and two toy poodles and two standard sized poodles, etc. All those different kinds of dogs grew out of the one pair that did make it aboard the Ark. If Saint Bernard's and Chihuahuas were wild animals they would be considered separate species since they obviously can't breed very well together. Are you saying man can selectively breed many different new species out of one species and God can't when the fossil evidence that He does so is all over the place and we also have the evidence that there are different kinds of Humans all descended from one breeding pair that made it aboard the Ark? Are you limiting God to only one method of creation, (sudden), when this Grand Artist chooses to use ALL methods? Are you aware the Hebrews quite often used the word "day" to mean more than a 24 hour period of time? Are you aware the Hebrew words for "Morning" and "evening" are also often used to mean "begining" [sic] and "ending"? Do you recognize poetry when you read it?

The word "evolution" originally referred to a plant escaping from its seed and unwinding and growing upwards towards the sun and branching out. Christ teaches that the Kingdom of Heaven is like a tiny mustard seed that grows and branches and becomes so big that "the birds of the Heavens can nest in its branches." Christ teaches that He is the Vine and the Father is the vinedresser who prunes the Vine in the direction He wants it to go by eliminating unfruitful branches, a perfect description of evolution. As C.S. Lewis said, while many are speculating what the next phase of evolution is going to be, it is happening all over the planet in Churches right under people's noses.

I chose to use evolution as a stepping stone to Christ instead of a stumbling block. It works. Don't try to turn it back into a stumbling block or we will lose the millions that do believe in evolution. I'm reaching them for Christ. I'm helping people's faith in God. Are you reaching them or, are you forcing them to check their intellect at the church door before going in? Many will not give up their intellect to have faith. Do we just throw those away and accept only those into Christ's Body who don't need to think deeply and logically about things? Did't [sic] Christ die for scientists and smart people to [sic]? Why do you reduce God and Creation to something so small anyone who loves Dinosaurs, Neanderthals and Natural History would not be intereted in Him? Do you not know Darwin ended His book with a paragraph of praise to God?

Do I recognize poetry when I read it? Am I aware that the Hebrew words for "morning" and "evening" are also often used to mean "beginning" and"ending?" What do these questions have to do with my original e-mail challenging her false teachings about evolution?

Notice that she didn't bother to respond to the fact I mentioned God made Adam and Eve. Neither did she then, or in any of our subsequent e-mails, send me the Scripture I requested that would verify that humans "evolved from pond scum".

Liz wanted to know: Are you reaching them or, are you forcing them to check their intellect at the church door before going in? That same attitude is what permeates many of today's churches. "Thinking for yourself" usually means you can believe whatever you want, and interpret the Bible however you want - which is exactly what "Scientific Proof that God Exists" is teaching....

Yeshua Himself said: Beware of false prophets! They come to you wearing sheep's clothing, but underneath they are hungry wolves! (Matthew 7:15).

Liz asserted: "Many will not give up their intellect to have faith." Truer words were never spoken! However, those of us who are truly born-again, realize that having faith takes intellect AND willingness to use it properly by admitting to ourselves that "we" are not in charge; God is. Yahweh is the Creator; we are the Creation.

God doesn't expect us to "give up" our intellect in order to have a relationship with Him. By the same token, people should not be "brought to Christ" via lies or deception or "kooky" theology! This is exactly why Christianity can be used as a punching bag by many atheists and other unbelievers:

First of all, many supposed believers don't understand God or the Bible because they don't have the Holy Spirit residing within (1 Corinthians 2:14, John 14:17). They might have read the Bible or at least have some Bible knowledge, but until their hearts and minds connect, they are not "born-again" and therefore, have a skewed understanding of God's Word.

Secondly, many believers come across as hypocrites and weirdos and pushy "holier-than-thou" types regurgitating their particular view of the Bible. Most "televangelists" are living proof of that, with each one pushing their own particular agenda and leading God's people down the wrong path (Matthew 7:13). Jim Jones, David Koresh, Sun Myung Moon, "Rael" - all of them proven false teachers because ALL of them, in one way or another use the Bible to back up their assertions, yet NONE of them adhere/adhered to the Scriptures. Everyone of these "teachers" use/used their human intellect to interpret the Bible....

Christianity is filled to the brim with paganism and weird denominations that have nothing whatsoever to do with the REAL Scriptures. They, in effect, are teaching "another Yeshua/Jesus" (1 Cor. 15:1; 2 Cor. 11:3-4). What the "Scientific Proof God Exists" website espouses completely fits into that category. In one of her e-mails Liz even admitted that she doesn't necessarily take the Bible "literally", and that she believes that several parts "contradict each other"....

2 Cor. 11: 4 For if someone comes and tells you about some other Yeshua than the one we told you about, or if you receive a spirit different from the one you received or accept some so-called "good news" different from the Good News you already accepted, you bear with him well enough!

The bottom line is: "Reaching people for Christ" by lying to them or twisting Scripture in any way is not Biblical, nor is it ethical! Lying is lying - and it breaks the Ninth Commandment.
