Searching For Truth about the Jewish Messiah?

By Nancy Sewell

Are you earching for Truth about the Jewish Messiah? You have come to the right place!

This page is unique and probably unlike any you have seen before. Instead of presenting the argument of "why you should believe what I believe", it will guide you to seek out the answers for yourself. As you know, there are too many people who twist scripture around to fit their own beliefs. I will arm you with the information you need to seek the truth for yourself.

Because of the anti-Christian/Messianic sites - especially the anti-missionary sites by Rabbinical Jews who accuse Messianic Christians of using "deceptive tactics" - I will provide a little information about myself:

I am a Gentile woman who was born into a Baptist church attending family. I accepted Jesus/Messiah Yeshua as my Lord and Savior at the age of 10. At this young age, I was already aware of the inconsistencies of scripture with what was taught in the church. Because "everyone celebrated Christmas and Easter" I thought the world was "Christian". Yet, I saw no biblical basis for the entire world being Christian and could never figure out what Jesus had to do with Santa Claus, Easter bunnies, and Easter eggs. Those holidays bothered me and I was very unhappy at those times.

Later on, after studying and earning a bachelors degree in a science field (which taught me to research and find the facts and truth for myself), I studied scripture and found those holidays were never taught and, in fact, they were pagan holidays with Christian terms applied to them. When I discovered this, I wondered what else was in the church that should not be. So, I set out to read and study the Bible for myself - all the way from Genesis to Revelation. I was totally shocked to find most of what calls itself "Christian" is bogus and a pretense - a mixture of what the G-d of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob detests (just like what Yeshua says in Revelation chapters 1-3). Most churches are a compromise of the Bible with the world which re-alloted from the "reformation". The problem with the "Reformation" is that it reformed some of the pagan Catholic Church's beliefs while retaining others, such as the "Christianized" pagan holy days, and changing the Shabbat to sunday. Instead of being a "Reformation" it should have been a RESTORATION back to the Jewish roots of the faith!

I went to various churches and did not find any I was happy with with, even though some were more tolerable than others. For the longest time, I thought I was the only one who believed what I believe: that the Bible never changes, and that the early church was Jewish and operated Jewish with the exception of their accepting Yeshua as the sacrificial lamb atoning for sins.

Then, a few years ago, I discovered a group of believers in Yeshua who believed exactly what I came to believe after studying the Bible for myself - Messianic Jewish believers, comprised of both Jews and Gentiles who have accepted Messiah Yeshua. "Messianic Judaism" is a restoration back to the early church that was established by Yeshua through His disciples.

To find the truth for yourself:

Pray and ask the G-d of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob to show you the truth and to reveal His Messiah to you; then start reading the Bible - both the Tanakh (old covenant) and the B'rit Hadashah (new covenant) I recommend the "Complete Jewish Bible" that has both the Masoretic text Tanakh and the B'rit Hadashah which was translated from the original Greek by Dr. David Stern, a Messianic Jewish believer in Messiah Yeshua. You can use a Jewish Tanakh if you choose, because it's actually as same Christians use. While you are studying, remember this:

You are the only one who has to answer for what you believe - not those who try to tell you what to believe. Since that is the case, doesn't it make sense to explore ALL the evidence and allow G-d to guide you to the truth?

Start reading from Genesis all the way through and allow G-d to guide you in truth - and learn to reject all the explanations ANYONE besides G-d has given you.

You may run across those who say that the B'rit Hadashah is a "Gentile book" not to be read by Jews. The truth is, the B'rit Hadashah was mostly written by the Jewish followers of Yeshua (who was born Jewish and is STILL Jewish) and written for Jews. So why are the rabbis trying to prevent you from reading this book?

It's the same with Isaiah 52 and 53 in the Tanakh - why do the rabbis want to prevent you from reading certain chapters from the Jewish prophet Isaiah? I think people are intelligent enough to read on their own, seeking guidance from G-d, and seeing the truth for themselves. Each individual has to answer for what they believe, so it is wise to explore on your own with guidance from G-d before you accept or reject Messiah Yeshua. If you believe in the G-d of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob then trust Him to guide you to the truth!

There will be those who say the B'rit Hadashah has errors and will actually take scripture out of context or purposely leave out information in order to deceive people. One such example is the genealogies of Mary and of Joseph. There are those who claim that they are both of Joseph and because the genealogies disagree, it proves the B'rit Hadashah is not inspired. What they fail to realize themselves (or they are intentionally using it to deceive) is that Mary inherited from her father in accordance with Numbers 27 and 36. Here is a paragraph I wrote to a friend who had the same question:

According to the laws of inheritance, when there were no sons, daughters were allowed to inherit with the full benefits of what the sons would inherit. Numbers 27. Numbers 36 goes further and states they must marry within their father's tribe because land was not to pass from one tribe to another - therefore keeping their father's inheritance intact within the family. It appears Mary was an only child (or at least had no brothers) and therefore the inheritance of her father was passed to Joseph, so Joseph was the son of Heli by inheritance and that is why Joseph was mentioned in Mary's bloodline - because of the inheritance laws of females whose fathers had no sons. Joseph's bloodline was mentioned because he was Yeshua's LEGAL father, and through Solomon. Because Joseph was the legal father and through Solomon, Yeshua had the LEGAL right to rule while having the blood right through Mary (which was inherited from her father since her father had no sons) This made both prophecies correct - Legal right to rule through Solomon (without having the cursed bloodline) and having the blood of David through Mary - which she inherited under the law from her father.

Any difficulties in the B'rit Hadashah can be explained by studying either other passages in the new covenant or studying the Tanakh. There is nothing that is conflicting in the B'rit Hadashah even if it appears to be at first glance.

As a scientist, I know biological systems often do not work like they first appear - and sometimes they work totally opposite. I use this example to show that one must often study themselves in order to see what was actually said and what it means. Let G-d guide you in this - not anyone with an ulterior motive who may want to deceive you. The truth will be found IF and ONLY if you want to find it.

What many anti-missionaries fail to mention is that the Tanakh also has its difficulties - all can either be explained by further study, or will remain a mystery until heaven. For instance, one such difficulty in the Tanakh is why Jacob used the different sticks when he was allowing his sheep and goats to breed (Genesis 30:37-39), yet another is using solid gold in some of the temple implements when solid gold is extremely soft - how would it hold up?

For those who were told that there will only be the old covenant and not a new one - the prophet Jeremiah clearly said there would be a new covenant (Jewish Publication Society 1917 Tanach):

Jeremiah

31:31 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah;

31:32 not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; forasmuch as they broke My covenant, although I was a lord over them, saith the Lord.

31:33 But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord, I will put My law in their inward parts, and in their heart will I write it; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people;

31:34 and they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying: 'Know the Lord'; for they shall all know Me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the Lord; for I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin will I remember no more.

The prophet Daniel knew the Messiah would be cut off/killed before the second temple was destroyed:

Daniel

9:24 Seventy weeks are decreed upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sin, and to forgive iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal vision and prophet, and to anoint the most holy place.

9:25 Know therefore and discern, that from the going forth of the word to restore and to build Jerusalem unto one anointed, a prince, shall be seven weeks; and for threescore and two weeks, it shall be built again, with broad place and moat, but in troublous times.

9:26 And after the threescore and two weeks shall an anointed one be cut off, and be no more; and the people of a prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; but his end shall be with a flood; and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.

And the Tanakh passages rabbis don't want you to read:

Isaiah

52:10 the Lord hath made bare His holy arm in the eyes of all the nations; and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God.

52:11 Depart ye, depart ye, go ye out from thence, touch no unclean thing; go ye out of the midst of her; be ye clean, ye that bear the vessels of the Lord.

52:12 For ye shall not go out in haste, neither shall ye go by flight; for the Lord will go before you, and the God of Israel will be your rearward.

52:13 Behold, My servant shall prosper, he shall be exalted and lifted up, and shall be very high.

52:14 According as many were appalled at thee--so marred was his visage unlike that of a man, and his form unlike that of the sons of men--

52:15 So shall he startle many nations, kings shall shut their mouths because of him; for that which had not been told them shall they see, and that which they had not heard shall they perceive.

53:1 'Who would have believed our report? And to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed?

53:2 For he shot up right forth as a sapling, and as a root out of a dry ground; he had no form nor comeliness, that we should look upon him, nor beauty that we should delight in him.

53:3 He was despised, and forsaken of men, a man of pains, and acquainted with disease, and as one from whom men hide their face: he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

53:4 Surely our diseases he did bear, and our pains he carried; whereas we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.

53:5 But he was wounded because of our transgressions, he was crushed because of our iniquities: the chastisement of our welfare was upon him, and with his stripes we were healed.

53:6 All we like sheep did go astray, we turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath made to light on him the iniquity of us all.

53:7 He was oppressed, though he humbled himself and opened not his mouth; as a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and as a sheep that before her shearers is dumb; yea, he opened not his mouth.

53:8 By oppression and judgment he was taken away, and with his generation who did reason? for he was cut off out of the land of the living, for the transgression of my people to whom the stroke was due.

53:9 And they made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich his tomb; although he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.'

53:10 Yet it pleased the Lord to crush him by disease; to see if his soul would offer itself in restitution, that he might see his seed, prolong his days, and that the purpose of the Lord might prosper by his hand:

53:11 Of the travail of his soul he shall see to the full, even My servant, who by his knowledge did justify the Righteous One to the many, and their iniquities he did bear.

53:12 Therefore will I divide him a portion among the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the mighty; because he bared his soul unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors; yet he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

If you don't have a Tanakh, you can read the Jewish Publication Society Bible Index on line. Presently the Complete Jewish Bible translated by David Stern is not on line although you can read the King James version online, if you choose. However, I would strongly recommend purchasing the Complete Jewish Bible.
