Thanks so much, Nathan!
Judging by your email, you seem to have a good grasp on some important facts about Yeshua’s Passover. And you know that the Sabbath is from sunset on Friday to sunset on Saturday evening.
Genesis 1:5 tells us: And there was evening and there was morning, one day, and so on. Genesis 1:8 through 1:31 show that God's days begin at sundown. Leviticus 23:3 tells us: Six days shall work be done: but on the seventh day is a sabbath of solemn rest, a holy convocation....
Now note that Leviticus 23:24 tells us: In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, shall be a solemn rest unto you, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, a holy convocation. This is Rosh Hashana, 1st of Tishrei, year 5767 or September 23, 2006. The evening of Rosh Hashana is on the 29th of Elul, or September 22, 2006.
Leviticus 23:27 says: On the tenth day of this seventh month is the day of atonement: it shall be a holy convocation unto you, and ye shall afflict your souls....This is Yom Kippur, 10th of Tishrei, 5767 or October 2, 2006.
Now note Leviticus 23:32 - It shall be unto you a sabbath of solemn rest, and ye shall afflict your souls: in the ninth day of the month at even, from even unto even, shall ye keep your Sabbath. The even of Yom Kippur is on the 9th of Tishrei, or October 1, 2006.
Leviticus 23: 34 On the fifteenth day of this seventh month is the feast of tabernacles for seven days unto the LORD. This is Sukkot, the 15th of Tishrei, 5767 or October 7, 2006. The eve of Sukkot is Tishrei the 14th or October 6, 2006.
By this you can see that the even is on the day before the feast day. And now, we will look at Passover. The first point to note is that the 14th day of the month is called the LORD’s Passover (Exodus 12:6; Leviticus 23:5; Numbers 9:3,4,11; Numbers 28:16). And that on the 15th day of the same month is the feast of unleavened bread unto the LORD. This is very import as we have two days of importance: the 14th day, and the 15th day - and they are not the same day.
Leviticus 23:5 tells us the first month, on the 14th day of the month at even, is the Lord’s Passover. Remember that the 14th is from even unto even, this year Nisan the 14th, 5766 or April 12, 2006 was Pesach which was on a Wednesday. If you begin the Passover seder remembrance after sunset on the 14th of Nisan, and place the lamb’s blood on the door post of your homes before midnight to commemorate the passing over of the death angel that killed all the first born of Egypt that night of the 14th.
Exodus 12: 7 And they shall take of the blood, and put it on the two side-posts and on the lintel, upon the houses wherein they shall eat it (the Passover). 8 And they shall eat the flesh in that night (the 14th of Nisan) roast with fire, and unleavened bread; with bitter herbs they shall eat it.
Exodus 12: 10 And ye shall let nothing of it remain until the morning;(the morning of 14th) but that which remaineth of it until the morning ye shall burn with fire.
Exodus 12: 14 And this day (the 14th day) shall be unto you for a memorial, and ye shall keep it a feast to the LORD: throughout your generations ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance for ever.
Exodus 12: 18 In the first [month], on the fourteenth day of the month at even, ye shall eat unleavened bread, until the one and twentieth day of the month at even.
Exodus 12: 23 For the LORD will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when he seeth the blood upon the lintel, and on the two side-posts, The LORD will pass over the door, and will not suffer the destroyer to come in unto your houses to smite you.
Referencing Yeshua: Mark 14: 16 And the disciples went forth, and came into the city, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the PASSOVER.
The disciples went into the city on Tuesday, to make ready the Passover which would begin at sunset that night, this night would be the LORD’s Passover on the 14th - and the day that Yeshua would deliver mankind from his bondage of sin. He died for all the children of Israel that were in bondage in Egypt.
Exodus 12: 42 It is a night (the 14th) to be much observed unto the LORD for bringing them out from the land of Egypt: this is that night of the LORD, to be much observed of all the children of Israel throughout their generations.
To have a Passover on the 15th day, one will miss all of what is to be gleaned from this great day!
Shalom, Jerry Olson
