An elder in the Presbyterian Church, USA, said during a meeting with a leader of the terrorist group Hezbollah that Muslims are easier to deal with than Jews.
The comment was aired on Arab television and recorded by the Middle East Media Research Institute TV Monitor Project, or MEMRI TV. The meeting with the terrorist – Sheikh Nabil Qauq, the leader of Hezbollah in south Lebanon – occurred Sunday during a visit by a 24-member delegation from the Presbyterian Church, USA. MEMRI has a video clip of part of the meeting on its website.
"As an elder of our church, I'd like to say that according to my recent experience, relations and conversations with Islamic leaders are a lot easier than dealings and dialogue with Jewish leaders," Elder Ronald Stone said during the meeting.
Stone of Pittsburgh, Pa., praised Hezbollah at the meeting, saying, "We treasure the precious words of Hezbollah and your expression of goodwill toward the American people."
Three top church officials responded Wednesday, stating, "The visit to Hezbollah and the comments on that occasion by members of this Presbyterian group do not reflect the official position of the Presbyterian Church."
Anti-Defamation League (ADL), Oct 2004:
In response to the above, Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director, and Rabbi Gary Bretton-Granatoor, ADL Director of Interfaith Affairs, issued the following statement:
It is deeply disturbing that leaders of the Presbyterian Church would meet with the leader of a terrorist organization that is directly responsible for attacks against Americans and Israelis, and that has repeatedly denounced America and Israel as enemies of Islam. It is especially troubling and offensive that at least one member of the delegation praised Hezbollah, telling them it was easier to dialogue with terrorists than with Jews when it comes to Middle East issues.
Coming in an atmosphere where interfaith relations between Presbyterians and Jews have been sorely tested by the church's proposal to disinvest from Israel, it is disturbing that the Presbyterian leaders made the irresponsible decision to meet with Hezbollah, an organization whose self-stated goal is the total destruction of the Jewish State and the establishment of Islamic rule over Jerusalem. It is outrageous that, rather than seeking out moderate voices working for positive change in the Middle East, the Presbyterian leaders decided to seek out the leader of a terrorist organization.

Genesis 12:3 God says: "I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you."

"...Islamic leaders are a lot easier than dealings and dialogue with Jewish leaders..." Just exactly WHAT did Dr. Stone mean by that? Is he an anti-Semite? Or was he simply agitated with Jewish leaders on that particular day? Or was it a reflection of the Presbyterian Church which is becoming ever more anti-Israel.
Dr. Stone, a retired Professor of Christian Social Ethics at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, should be ashamed of himself for making such ignorant comments. "We treasure the precious words of Hezbollah and your expression of goodwill toward the American people." Goodwill toward Americans??? Does he realize he was praising the very terrorists who have been killing Americans around the world for at least 25 years?
While his statement may have been nothing more than Dr. Stone's personal opinion, he needs to reevaluate the depth of the Israeli-Palestinian situation, viewing it from a Biblical perspective; i.e., what does GOD say about Israel, the Jews, and the offspring of Ishmael who became the Arab nation? Obviously well-educated, he apparently knows nothing about God or the Bible. If he did, he NEVER would have publicly praised Arab terrorists - especially the infamous Hezbollah which, since its founding in 1982, has been responsible for hundreds of attacks against Israelis and Americans, including the 1983 suicide bomb attack on the U.S. Marine barracks in Beirut, which killed 200. Hezbollah also attacked the Israeli Embassy in Argentina in 1992 and the Israeli cultural center in Buenos Aires in 1994.
Muslims have been responsible for most, if not all, global terror. They have been physically attacking and killing Americans for about a quarter of a century, and their goal is to hold the world at bay until everyone is converted to Islam (see Death to America).
(If Dr. Stone knew his Bible, he would know that the conflict between Isaac and Ishmael started in Genesis 16 when God made His Covenant with Abraham's son Isaac, and in essence, sent the half-brother Ishmael on his merry way to become "a geat nation" [the present day Arabs, most of whom are Muslim]. In Genesis 16:13-16 [years before Abraham's second son Isaac was born] the Angel of the Lord told Abraham's servant Hagar that her son Ishmael would be "...a wild donkey of a man, His hand will be against everyone, and everyone's hand will be against him; and he will live to the east of all his brothers." The jealousy and resentment between the two brothers created an unparalleled hate which has set off wars and atrocities for four thousand years. It was the title deed to the land of Israel, which God promised to Abraham's lineage, that has been the source of the friction between the Jews and the Arabs right up to the present day. Muslims believe that the Jews changed and distorted the Bible in order to establish themselves as the heirs of Abraham's Covenant blessings. However, they fail to explain how the New Testament clearly teaches that the Covenant was made with Isaac and his descendants....)
Here are some questions for Dr. Stone: If Islamic leaders are so much "easier" to deal with than Jews, why didn't you - a supposed Christian man of God - seek an audience with Yassar Arafat, Sadam Hussein, or Osama bin Laden in order to try to talk them into leaving Israel and the Jews (God's Chosen People) alone, or to sway them to stop their childish tantrums and make peace with the world? Why didn't you open your Bible to show them how GOD feels about the war between the Arabs and the Jews? How Israel was given by GOD to the JEWS and how God promised to make Israel a nation again (which He did in 1948 when the world returned Israel to the Jews after the Holocaust, thereby fulfilling one of the end time prophecies)? How God warned the world that He would curse anyone who went up against Israel (Genesis 12:3)? How the conflict between the Muslims and the Jews is not of flesh and blood but of principalities (see Isaac and Ishmael)?
Why are you supporting the Muslim terrorists who have taken credit for several attacks against Americans? Perhaps the answer lies in the Bible which tells us that, in the end times, many false prophets will arise to deceive "the elect" (Mark 13:22)....The bottom line is, God can tell the difference between the "real thing" and a hypocrite - because if you are out doing your "own thing" and approaching life from a carnal viewpoint, then you are NOT on God's path:

Matthew 7:21 - 23: 21 "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord!' will enter the Kingdom of Heaven, only those who do what my Father in heaven wants. 22 On that Day, many will say to me, 'Lord, Lord! Didn't we prophesy in your name? Didn't we expel demons in your name? Didn't we perform many miracles in your name?' 23 Then I will tell them to their faces, 'I never knew you! Get away from me, you workers of lawlessness!'"

As a member of the Presbyterian Chuch (USA), it is not surprising that Dr. Stone would utter sweeping generalities against the Jews. His church, after all, believes - along with the Catholic pope - that "evangelization of the Jews" is wrong (see Evangelizing Jews). Presbyterian Church conflicts have arisen in the past between those who support traditional interpretations of the Bible, and human rights activists. Past crises have been over the right of Afro-Americans to live free of slavery, and of women to seek ordination. The main present conflict is whether gays and lesbians may attain equal treatment in the church. Gays and lesbians in committed relationships seek ordination and recognition of their civil unions....
The Presbyterian statement of faith includes the following:
- inviting all to join our diverse, inclusive family of faith, transcending all boundaries of race, class, culture, gender and sexual identity to become one in Christ;
- embracing your individuality and personal spiritual journey;
- offering ourselves in faithful and loving service to God
If the Presbyterian church truly offered themselves in "faithful and loving service to God", issues such as female preachers, gay marriages, the rights of Blacks, the apparent support of the Muslims and their anti-Israel stance would never even have come up in the first place. It seems the Church, while spouting great-sounding rhetoric, doesn't really care about what the BIBLE says or what GOD thinks.
Believers must always remind themselves that "carnal" issues resolved through our limited, human mindsets always result in carnal decisions and conclusions. Dr. Stone's openly pro-Muslim, anti-Jewish stance is ample proof of this.
Allah must be cackling with glee....
