I have to say, I appreciate a good debunking of the 'Joy of Satan' as much as anyone. If you like, I'll even send you articles I've written about it. I'm signed onto their forums and I enjoy reading the retarded and ignorant posts made their members. Their foolish antics amuse me greatly.
It might, then, come as a shock for you to know that I am also a Satanist.
That article has spurred me, and I'm sure many others, to write to you because 99% of Satanists hate the Joy of Satan. We all recognise it as a despicable and thoroughly unsatanic cult. Very few Satanic beliefs are voiced and those that are, are twisted to the purposes of Maxine Dietrich.
Satanists don't believe that Satan created mankind. Many of us don't believe in Satan as a real being at all. To most, Satan is basically a symbol of rebellion and of the individual and self-enlightenment. But also of responsibility and equality. Those that do believe in him as a real being are no threat either. 'Satanists' who perform violent and 'evil' acts in the name of Satan are the minority and also looked down upon by other Satanists.
We do not break the law and any Satanist who does so in the name of Satan can expect to quickly find himself very unpopular. We get enough bad press as it is.
Now, as a Jew, I expect you not to knock my Satanic beliefs or discriminate against them for a second. The Jews have had to put up with a lot over the centuries and any real Satanist will hold no anti-Semitic views. In fact, I, and most Satanists, will find any kind of racism completely abhorrent. It's against what we believe. We believe the individual has a right to believe whatever they want. You want to be a Jew, then fine. We want to be Satanists. Your race/religion been discriminated against many times in the past and ours gets a lot of undeserved bad press too. In a lot of ways, Jews and Satanists are in the same boat.
But we don't want to be generalised by the Joy of Satan. It is a cult that no real Satanist will have any part of. Most Satanists don't go around burning Churches or sacrificing animals either. As much as possible, we're a peaceful religion. Some don't even consider it a religion, more of a philosophy.
And no real Satanists believe that Satan is some intergalactic Nazi super-being who created the human race. That and everything on the JoS site is confined to the fantasies of its members.
I'm not asking you to take down the article, I appreciate a lot of work probably went into and you do a good job debunking the JoS (though that's not hard). I do ask, however, that you acknowledge that the JoS is a one off. That you use the article to let people know that the JoS is a cult and nothing to do with Satanism. That you do a favour to religion that is being lied about and twisted as Judaism often is also.
