Dear Refiner's Fire...

I just read some of the contentions by the Evil Bible site and your rebuttal. Although I do not believe exactly as the author of the Evil Bible site does, I likewise find your counter arguments very unconvincing. You ask why shouldn't God get mad because some of the Israelites are worshiping Golden Images. First of all I think you mean angry. The word "mad" technically means insane, e.g. as a mad dog. Secondly, if God is all good then He can never get mad (or angry). That defames God and gives Him the same foibles and weaknesses as human beings; if He is not indeed above mankind, why should He be deserving of worship or adoration? Surely we should worship God out of love, but never out of fear.

There are countless examples, particularly in the Old Testament, where the Kings of Israel commit adultery or murder despite the Ten Commandments. David commits adultery with Bathsheba and orders her husband to his death. In Psalms 137 David calls for the innocent infants of the Edomites to be smashed against the rocks, simple as revenge because his army is defeated and Jerusalem is leveled. Even on his death bed they bring him a BEAUTIFUL YOUNG VIRGIN on the pretext of keeping him warm (I'll try to remember to ask for the same on my death bed). And Solomon, after saying he will grant his mother Bathsheba's request, immediately reneges when he finds out it is his half brother requesting to marry another woman. Not only does he break his promise, but then sends a henchman to kill his on half brother simple to remove a political obstacle in his way to the kingdom.

Others are also ordered killed (so much for being a model of the 10 Commandments). This smacks of other monarchs e.g. Richard III or Mac Beth who have those killed who might impede their quest for the kingdom. Even when Moses goes repeated to the Pharaoh to threatened plagues, The Bible says that the Lord has already hardened the Pharaoh's heart against listening (whatever happened to free will?). Why even waste Moses' time to go if God knows in advance that He will not allow the Pharaoh to free the Jews? I could go on and site numerous other examples, but I think I have made my point. The Old Testament is basically Jewish propaganda to justify whatever means that may be used to do away with enemies, both foreign and domestic, and to treat women as property and sex objects to be used for man's lust. It is considered as OK to conquer a foe, kill the male children, and rape the very young women because they are virgins. Surely these acts cannot be the inspired word of God.

"Love thine Enemy as thyself".

Respectfully yours, C. Christopher La Grange, Georgia

Our Response....

Dear Christopher

Since you are from the Evil Bible website, I am grateful that your e-mail didn't reflect the usual hatred and sarcasm that usually emanates from Evil Bible participants. You have made some excellent comments, and I will do my best to give you a proper response:

I totally agree with you that God doesn't have any foibles and weaknesses, but if you will check out the Scriptures, God DID get angry - many times! He got angry with Adam and Eve for disobeying Him; that's why they got kicked out of the Garden, and that's why mankind inherited the consequences of sin. Because society had gotten totally evil and twisted in Noah's day, God destroyed the entire earth - except for Noah and his family who were the only "righteous" and Godly people around....I'd say He was pretty angry! Yeshua (Jesus) got angry at the "money-changers" in the Temple on a Sabbath, and He tossed them out on their ears. While God's emotions aren't necessarily the same as the emotions of humans, He certainly does reveal love and kindness for and towards His people; and he certainly does reveal anger at our disobedience. If we couldn't see these emotions in Him, then He would have no "personality"; He would be a basic "nothing". Why should we worship a nothing? The Bible says He created us in His own image.

God is showing anger towards us today. He has removed His mighty hand from the U.S. which has become a secular nation. What was once considered "good" has been twisted into sounding "evil" (as evidenced on the Evil Bible website which makes God sound like an evil pervert, and the Ten Commandments as being a silly burden which is to be ignored), and vice-versa. Nobody (and I'm generalizing here) pays attention to the Ten Commandments anymore and, in fact, it seems people think it funny and "cool" to be as decadent as possible these days. Turn on your TV and you'll see what I mean.

The Middle East situation is getting worse by the day (man's doing - in part, because most people don't realize that this is not a physical situation, but a spiritual one that began with the jealousy between Isaac and Ishmael and won't be settled until Yeshua returns; Islam is starting to take over the world by force; the weather patterns are ever-worsening; natural disasters are starting to come in "Biblical proportions".

The Bible is unfolding before our very eyes. God is angry. He has given us free will, but He is also using our decisions to help usher in His end times scenario. For instance, Hurricane Katrina hit and made thousands of Americans homeless IMMEDIATELY after President Bush and company decided to help make thousands of Israelis in Gaza homeless. God has told us NOT to divide His Land or mess with His people:

Genesis 12:3: "I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you."

I borrowed the following from Strait Gate Ministries to show the correlation between America's "Road Map" peace plan and some of our natural disasters:

Acts of God: America's Warning Not to Divide Israel

By Jennifer James, CBN News Producer

CBN.com - Since its modern establishment, the state of Israel has been a hotbed of controversy. Jews and Palestinians have long battled over who should rightfully inhabit the land of Israel, a land promised to the Jews 4,000 years ago. In the Bible, the book of Genesis details the covenant God made with the descendants of Abraham.

Genesis 15:18 - "On that day, the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying, 'to your descendants I have given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river of Euphrates.'"

For more than a decade, America has led attempts to settle that dispute, each time encouraging Israel to bring its covenant lands to the bargaining table, this time with the "Road Map" peace plan. Bible scholars say that may be a costly decision for the U.S. as America again stands at odds with God's covenant promise.

U.S. Consul General Jeffrey Feltman said, "What we need to do now is implement and focus on how we get the two sides back to a political process and towards the vision of a two-state solution: Israel and Palestine living side by side."

On April 30, 2003, America was positioned as the catalyst to jump-start the so-called "solution" to the Middle East crisis. As U.S.-backed Palestinian Prime Minister Mahmoud Abbas was sworn in, the "Road Map" peace plan was set in motion.

The very next day began the worst month of tornadoes in American history, more than 500 in a single month. Normally, 1,000 tornadoes hit the United States each year, but this year, in just eight days in May, 375 twisters ripped across the heartland of America.

While in Israel, Assistant Secretary of State William Burns told a group of left-wing activists that "common sense" would override the conservative and Christian viewpoints concerning the road map.

May 9th, 2003, President Bush addressed students at the University of South Carolina. Bush called on the Palestinians to embrace the road to peace, and see the flag of Palestine raised over a free nation.

Hours later, tornadoes returned and Oklahoma City again became the bulls-eye for deadly twisters, reducing what was left of businesses and homes to splinters and bricks. The tornadoes of May devastated the Midwest with the third worst property damage in American history. Since then, the Road Map has endured a rocky road to June, coinciding with what may be America's most rain-drenched spring in history.

On the East Coast there have been less than 10 rainless weekends the entire year. And in the West, certain crop-eating pests are having their best year in six decades amid dry conditions.

In the early stages of the Road Map peace process, weather catastrophe and recent violence in Israel have competed for the headlines. That violence coupled with America's own battles at home are leading some to question the Road Map. Is there a connection between dividing the Holy Land and utter disruption? Some Bible scholars think so.

In the book of Joel, God warns against dividing the land of Israel.

Joel 3:1-2 says, "...I will enter into judgment with them there on behalf of my people and my inheritance, Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations; and they have divided up my land."

Bill Koenig, author of Israel: The Blessing or the Curse, said, "We know for a fact that God gave this land, through the Abrahamic covenant, He gave the land of Israel to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and their descendants, and this land is God's land."

Koenig said the U.S. should not consider such chaos a coincidence. "These are warning signals, these are warning judgements to America that this is My covenant land and it's not to be traded for promises of peace and security. This land is not to be parceled," he said.

In the last 12 years, the U.S. has stepped up its efforts to pressure Israel to give up her covenant lands, several times sharing the spotlight with major storms.

On October 30, 1991, in a meeting scheduled by the first President Bush, Israelis and Palestinians discussed ways to achieve peace in the Middle East. Opening talks focused on trading the lands of Israel for a peace agreement.

That same day, thousands of miles away, a powerful storm was brewing off the coast of Nova Scotia. On October 31st, what would be called "The Perfect Storm" smashed into New England, pummeling the President's Kennebunkport, Maine home with waves 30 feet high. It was a storm so rare that the weather patterns required to create it only happen once every 100 years.

August 23rd, 1992, Middle East peace talks resumed in Washington, D.C. The issue remained surrendering the biblical lands of Judea and Samaria in exchange for peace. Hundreds of miles south, Florida was the target of the worst natural disaster in American history. Hurricane Andrew tore through with an eye more than 30 miles wide and winds up to 178 miles per hour leaving a $32 billion disaster.

Koenig said, "The world leaders have attempted to parcel the covenant land, so as Israel's property and land is at risk, so is the property of the nation that's promoting the peace process. And I might add that the greater the pressure on Israel to give up this property, the greater the repercussions and the greater the following events that take place afterwards."

In the Bible, the prophet Zechariah warned the nations that would come against Jerusalem. "On that day, when all the nations of the earth are gathered against her, I will make Jerusalem an immovable rock for all the nations. All who try to move it will injure themselves," says Zechariah 12:3.

Koenig said, "We have the nations of the world right now siding with the Arabs and the Muslims that are focused on the covenant land, but we know God is standing with the nation of Israel."

Is America playing a dangerous game? As the Road Map peace process encounters resistance, the Bush administration's determination to see it through has escalated.

Secretary of State Colin Powell said, "We have a plan, we have the commitment of leaders and now we have to execute that plan, keep moving forward and not allow ourselves to be distracted or thrown off point, from the promise that's out there with the Road Map, by this surge of violence. We've got to punch our way through it."

But, up against biblical prophecies, Koenig said America is standing against the very Word of God and should expect major obstacles.

"I believe the Lord will allow these events to happen that disrupt the peace process," he said. "As long as you are going to have a terrorist infrastructure that's allowed to co-exist in the nation Israel, we're going to have a problem."

And with those same terrorist groups opposed to America's brand of peace, the future of the Road Map is dim. Israelis maintain they will be relentless to protect their country while all plans to split up the tiny nation may be curbed.

Koenig said, "God loves the nation of Israel. He still, to this day, loves this nation. He is in hot pursuit of the people of Israel. Through these events, we look at the tragedies and we look at the trials, but God's trying to wake up the world."

While you may be grinning to yourself and thinking believers to be crazy, please explain the correlation between the Bible's "end times" scenario in the Books of Daniel and Revelation, which includes natural disasters of Biblical proportions - and compare them to recent events which have been dubbed "the worst disasters" ever recorded (i.e., the December 2004 tsunami in the Indian Ocean that killed hundreds of thousands; the August 2005 devastation of New Orleans and much of the southeastern coast of the U.S. via Hurricane Katrina; and the October 2005 magnitude 7.6 earthquake that killed tens of thousands). Furthermore, presently the world is experiencing an onslaught of many new diseases (and the return of old ones, such as the Bubonic Plague!), including the "Bird Flu, which medical officials are afraid is in the process of triggering a human pandemic.....

You said: "There are countless examples, particularly in the Old Testament, where the Kings of Israel commit adultery or murder despite the Ten Commandments"....

The fact is: Man has always "done his own thing". That's why we're in the mess that we're in now. No matter how many times God has reached out to us, we always manage to screw it up somehow. Why? Because we just don't listen!

You said: "Others are also ordered killed (so much for being a model of the 10 Commandments)....Even when Moses goes repeated to the Pharaoh to threatened plagues, The Bible says that the Lord has already hardened the Pharaoh's heart against listening (whatever happened to free will?). Why even waste Moses' time to go if God knows in advance that He will not allow the Pharaoh to free the Jews? "....

Whenever the Bible tells us that "the Lord hardened someone's heart" it's because God, in His infinite wisdom already knows who is and who is not going to listen or to belong to Him in the end. Therefore, God's hand is NOT upon that person, leading or guiding him. God simply doesn't bother with that person, and allows him to "harden his heart" against God.

Why waste Moses' time? If Moses hadn't been sent, then this whole thing would have been a moot point and the world would never have heard about the Exodus! Just like, if God hadn't scattered the Jews throughout the nations, nobody would ever have heard about the Jews or their God YHWH, or tiny Israel, for that matter. If God hadn't sent an aspect of Himself to earth in the form of a man who would become the final Sin Sacrifice, then (1) nobody would have had the chance for eternal life; (2) nobody would hate the Jews for "killing" Jesus, thus keeping anti-Semitism alive - and consequently, keeping alive the discussions about the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; (3) the Holocaust would never have happened and, as a result, Israel would not have become a nation again (as promised in Isaiah 66: 7-8, and in just ONE DAY).

God uses everything mankind does in order to (1) reveal Himself to us, and (2) to bring about His grand plan - which is to have those who are His living with Him throughout eternity. Eternity, I believe, is closer than anyone realizes.

Shali
